A Review of Authentication Schemes in Internet of Things

Internet of Things (IoT) has emerged as one of the most important technological developments in recent years, because of its ability to process a wide range of application domains. IoT is com-posed of several interconnected objects that are able to communicate to one another. A secure communication between these objects is an essential requirement. There are security issues in this situation where several objects share information. User authentication is a key component in an IoT ecosystem as it enables the user to securely interact with one another. This paper presents an extensive examination of IoT authentication schemes. The taxonomy of authentication schemes is presented in terms of various domains including wireless sensor networks (WSN), smart home network, vehicular network, grid network and cloud-based network. Based on the review, limita-tion of existing authentication schemes is highlighted.
