摘要

The effects of climate change have a particularly strong impact on mountainous regions, which are home to numerous hotspots of biodiversity. Mountainous regions in global preview have been greatly affected by global warming and its consequences, resulting in unprecedented climatic events, accelerated deglacialization, earlier snow and ice melting, and phenological shifts. The present study examines the various drivers of shifts in plant phenology and a meta-analysis has been conducted based on the peer-reviewed literature on the same. As the Indian Himalayas are extremely prone to be affected by the consequences of climate change, the present chapter highlights some of the case studies from the Indian Himalayan Region that show the impact of changing climate on the phenological events of the economically important plant species from this region. This chapter underscores the need for continued research to develop effective conservation strategies, safeguard biodiversity hotspots, and mitigate the consequences of climate change on these fragile mountain ecosystems. Furthermore, exploring the interactions between plant phenology and other ecological factors will provide valuable insights for adaptive management practices in the face of ongoing global environmental changes.
