Impact of Climate Change and Mitigation Plans for Building Climate-Resilient Village Ecosystem: Challenges and Adaptive Strategies

摘要

Climate change (CC) is an issue of global concern and in the Himalayan context, the magnitude is even high and visible across various regimes. The continuous change in weather patterns and increasing frequency of natural calamities had a drastic impact on the livelihood and social life of inhabiting community in the Himalayan region. Inhabitants of Uttarakhand state in the Indian Himalayas are regular victims of climate-driven hazards such as earthquakes, flash floods and other extreme events in the past few decades which have been verifying the harsh reality of climatic crises making land and its people vulnerable to seek sustainable opportunities in the mountain terrain. The present study is a perception-based study conducted in a village at Takula Block, District Almora, to gather baseline information from the villagers on the impacts of CC and associated challenges with sustainable development (SD) of the communities residing in the local mountain ecosystem.
