Metallopolymers—A Value-Added Approach to the Modern Days Needs

Metallopolymers have been one of the recent and emerging trends in the advanced polymers chemistry since the past two decades. They have managed to attract considerable attention and emerge as a field of tremendous interest because of their versatile and potential use, and various emerging applications in so many areas like physiochemical industry, technology, catalysis, public health, climate change moderation, production in addition to energy storage. Metallopolymers have extensive array of promising applications, and as a result they can be used as solar cells, detectors, photonic crystal displays, light emitting diodes, and memory storage devices. Their diverse applications arise from the unique metal functionalities provided to them from the metal centers that they possess together with the combined typical polymeric features. Thereby, the incorporation of different types of metal-based compounds into the polymeric chains assists the tuning of the resultant material’s properties. Therefore because of being considered so forefront with all of their unique and emerging properties, uses and advantages, there is a great scope of research on metallopolymers including their synthesis, characteristic properties and interesting applications. And so, the focus of this chapter will also be on scope, history, synthetic routes, types and various applications of metallopolymer.
