Fostering a Culture of Research in TESOL: A Review and a Look Ahead
摘要
This chapter provides a review of studies published between 2000 and 2022 that focus on the culture of research in the field of teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). The authors reviewed 50 research articles found through searches of the Scopus and EBSCOhost databases using combinations of these key terms: teacher-researcher, TESOL, professional development, teacher education, teacher-researcher collaborations, and lesson study. The selected articles were analyzed in terms of conceptual approaches that guided the research, research methodologies, and factors that helped or hindered research by English language teachers. This review includes studies of teachers’ conceptualizations of and engagement with and in research in English language teaching (ELT), as well as professional development and teacher education models that integrate research and research collaborations into their programming. By reviewing how teachers engage in research and their experiences while doing so, we intend to provide a landscape of research culture in TESOL across a variety of contexts.
