What Linguistic Considerations Should Smart Speakers Adopt in Error Notification? - Part 2

This study discusses the design of linguistic considerations in smart speaker error notification following the previous study in HCII2023. Specifically, this study provide further analysis of experimental data from a previous study that examined the effect of error notification expressions in restoring reliability in situations where the smart speaker failed to produce the output expected by the user. The experiment was conducted using a direct instruction/asking expression and an apology expression in an utterance requesting the user to input again (n = 24). This experimental data analyzed how users’ intention to use the smart speaker and their self-perception of their knowledge of the smart speaker affect the effect of linguistic consideration. The results showed that there was no significant effect of different linguistic considerations on the evaluation of intention to use the smart speaker. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient between reliability and intention to use was low in all experimental conditions.
