Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development: The Case of Saudi Arabia

摘要

This study investigates the short and long-run relationships between renewable energy consumption and sustainable development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 1962 to 2021 using the Autoregressive distributed lag model (ARDL). The results show that there is an inverse relationship between GDP and carbon dioxide emissions. The study recommends the inclusion of environmental considerations when preparing macroeconomic policies In light of the reciprocal relationship between the economy and the environment. Renewable energy consumption is positively related to GDP. Thus, there is a positive impact of renewable energy consumption on GDP. The study results also show the importance of secondary education in achieving sustainable development. This research recommends increasing the level of education and promoting renewable energy consumption to boost sustainable development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
