Improving Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Culture in the Oil and Gas Industry Management Through Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

This study aims to explore how Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) are applied to improve Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) culture in the management of the oil and gas industry. Data for this academic inquiry was collected through structured interviews with eight selected representatives from various companies. The findings indicate that these companies have successfully embedded SDGs into their operational framework, as evidenced by their robust Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies. This integration is further demonstrated by their initiatives to enhance OSH culture, including conducting HSE campaigns, enforcing new regulations, incentivizing employees, and promoting gender equality to ensure equitable opportunities for all employees. The study concludes that enhancing the current OSH culture requires management’s commitment to enforcing safety regulations consistently to reduce workplace accidents. This research highlights the importance of incorporating SDGs into OSH practices in the oil and gas sector to create a safer and more sustainable work environment.
