Prevalence of Red-Green Colour Vision Deficiency in Dhaka City and Developing a Localized CVD Diagnostic Tool

Based on empirical studies, it has been shown that around one out of every twelve males and roughly one out of every two hundred females are estimated to experience colour vision deficiency (CVD) on a global scale. According to prior studies conducted on the topic of colour vision deficiency (CVD) in Bangladesh, it has been found that approximately 3.35% of the population is affected by this condition. Further analysis reveals that the prevalence of CVD is higher among males, with a rate of 8.04%, compared to females, who exhibit a lower rate of 0.66%. No comprehensive research studies have been conducted in Dhaka City to determine the prevalence of CVD. This study involved a sample of 601 residents in Dhaka City. The objective was to assess the presence of Red Green Colour Vision impairment among these residents using the Ishihara 38 plates edition. The assessments were conducted under the supervision of a registered medical practitioner and plates designed by a professional Designer. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence rate of Red Green Colour Vision Deficiency (CVD) among the residents of Dhaka City. In the subsequent phase of the study, the obtained result from this survey has been compared statistically with the previous research data specific to Bangladesh, as well as with the globally known prevalence rate. Hypothesis testing was performed to examine the samples impacted by CVD. On the second phase of the study, six simply designed plates and two Ishihara Type CVD testing plates with Bengali Fonts has been created. And those plates have been applied to the CVD affected respondents and the tools’ effectivity has been analyzed. In pursuant of attaining of UNSDG, the policymakers should consider the needs of CVD affected people of the country to ensure quality education and equal opportunity for all.
