Lifelong Learning for Sustainable Development Aligning Adult Education with Sustainable Development Goal 4
摘要
Lifelong learning is fundamental in achieving sustainable development, as it equips individuals with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to address complex socio-environmental challenges. This paper explores the relationship between lifelong learning and sustainable development, Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4), focusing on applying andragogy (educational approach tailored for adults) as a critical element and method for creating a sustainable lifelong learning society. By examining the synergies between lifelong learning and sustainable development, this paper sheds light on the role of andragogy in promoting the achievement of SDG4. It will explore how lifelong learning and andragogy can contribute to acquiring knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to address the challenges outlined in SDG4. The review reveals a research gap concerning the relationship between lifelong learning and sustainable development, specifically SDG4, with a particular emphasis on andragogy. Furthermore, it emphasizes the necessity of constructing a comprehensive conceptual framework that consolidates the fragmented body of literature, which often concentrates on isolated variables to explain the concept of sustainable development. The paper underscores the need for workplace-based, lifelong learning programs that incorporate andragogical ideas to tackle organizational sustainability concerns. These programs enable adult employees to enhance their comprehension of sustainability principles, promote sustainable behaviors, and facilitate positive workplace transformation.
