Exploring AI Image Generation for Sustainable Interior Spaces Inspired by Non-human Species

With the increasing urgency to address environmental concerns, sustainable design practices have become crucial in various fields, including interior design and architecture. This paper explores the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) image generation for sustainable interior spaces inspired by non-human species. Through evaluation by a panel of 20 experts, four images inspired by bees, bats, bird nests, and whales were assessed based on aesthetic appeal, functionality, climate adaptation, human comfort and wellbeing, longevity and maintenance, compliance with regulations, and use of sustainable materials. The findings highlight the organic and fluid aesthetics, efficient space utilization, natural lighting and ventilation strategies, sustainable material choices, and incorporation of biophilic design elements in the AI-generated images. Limitations include feasibility, user comfort, maintenance, adaptation to diverse contexts, and lack of human-centric focus. These insights contribute to the development of nature-inspired AI design solutions that prioritize sustainability and human well-being.
