The Impact of Globalization on Bahraini Women Jobs in the Kingdom of Bahrain

This paper investigates the impact of globalization towards Bahraini women’s job opportunities. Women’s status in the labor market have been and will always be a matter of discussion especially after the emergence of globalization and its influence on job openings provided to women in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The jobs offered nowadays in the Kingdom of Bahrain are not only limited to Bahraini women since any qualified women around the world could be a suitable candidate to attain the same position. The diversification of workplaces resulted in higher exposure to the effects of globalization to women that are part of the labor market. Globalization influences job opportunities provided to women in both a positive and negative manner; however, the disadvantages of globalization should be addressed thoroughly in order to optimize the benefits. Furthermore, globalization diminished the regional identity along with culture norms significantly by introducing the ideology of “global village”. Various studies have been conducted regarding the impact of globalization on job opportunities offered to women, nevertheless limited data have been implemented on the Gulf region, particularly analyzing the Bahraini labor market. The paper concludes by stating that mandatory awareness workshops should be organized regularly to emphasize the significance of culture and preserve cultural identity. Arranging job exhibitions and conferences targeting women will eventually reduce the undesirable effects of globalization by facilitating female entry into the workforce. Moreover, the level of the Bahrainization ratio in the private sector is relatively low in comparison to the public sector; therefore, exploring ways to increase the rate of employment for Bahraini women is a matter to be investigated in the future, which will eventually help in achieving the sustainable development goals set by the government of Bahrain.
