Digital Technologies: Uses and Challenges in Government

Developed country governments are at the forefront of adopting the latest technologies to enhance the well-being of their populations, businesses and citizens. They are committed to promoting digital transformation in government, with an emphasis on operating models that are citizen- and service-centric. The COVID-19 pandemic has stimulated the use of pre-existing and new technology in developed countries. Countries have had the opportunity to expand their national digital transformation initiatives and e-services, demonstrating their preparedness for both traditional pandemics and disasters. This is due to the fact that the recent and new issues brought about by the pandemic in the public sector have a direct effect on the amount of pressure on the government to implement digital transformation and establish effective ICT governance. The research below offers an overview of the evolution of digital government, with an emphasis on future trends that are changing how the public sector interacts with and speaks to businesses. The study demonstrates that although the majority of nations create strong digital government strategies, they have difficulty creating and implementing the appropriate policies and programs. By highlighting individual programs that provide results, policymakers, subject-matter experts, and academics in the public sector may create best practices for next national policies. With a focus on the Arab Gulf governments' adoption of digital transformation, as well as the obstacles they encountered when trying to help their agencies provide better public services. The use and influence of digital technologies on development are examined and evaluated in this study, and problems that affect many different sectors are identified, such as infrastructure, the consequences of knowledge management, and government policy commitments.
