Gunshot wounds are discussed from the perspective of the physics of propelled missiles and the consequent facial injury. A classification system is presented that includes the velocity and facial subunits involved. The reconstruction options available are linked to the classification of maxillofacial and mandibular defects. The deep circumflex iliac artery flap is introduced, and the fibula and scapula flaps are reviewed.
