This chapter is based on the outcomes and results of the Secu4All project and answers the question to which extent a partnership approach can strengthen local authorities’ capabilities and capacities in protecting public space. The study explores the feasibility and effectiveness of standardisation and a partnership approach in enhancing safety and security in public spaces by delving into the factors defining the protection of public space. Secondly, it discusses international standards such as Risk Management Guidelines 31000:2018, worldwide CPTED standard ISO 22341:2021 and the newly published CEN/TS 14383-2:2022 (The new CEN TS 14383-2:2022 supersedes the old TR. It builds on ideas from risk management (ISO 31000 series), quality management (ISO 9000 series), CPTED (ISO 22341:2021) and new approaches, new types of crime, and UN/EU standards/documents (like the ICCS)) as well as other approaches, such as the Secu4All project-developed quick vulnerability assessment tool (VAT). This research also highlights the importance of collaborative efforts and the application of the latest generation Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles. The implementation of online and in situ (offline) training programmes, which emphasise the need for multi-stakeholder engagement and experiential learning, has proven to be an effective approach to the protection of public space.
