Water Quality Evaluation, Reservoir Management, and Zooplankton Monitoring in the Dharmapuri District, Tamil Nadu, India

The current study examined the hydrobiology of the three perennial reservoirs that were chosen: Panchapalli, Nagavathy, and Thoppaiyar in the district of Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu, India. Over one year (March 2022 to February 2023) at monthly intervals, seasonal variations in water quality evaluation and zooplankton monitoring were examined, encompassing four distinct seasons: summer, before the monsoon, monsoon, and postmonsoon. For the present invitation, different evaluations of water quality parameters were analyzed. Based on current monitoring and the diversity of zooplankton (for example, Rotifera > Copepoda > Cladocera > Ostracoda), thirty species were found in the Panchapalli reservoir, twenty-nine in the Nagavathy reservoir, and forty-four in the Thoppaiyar reservoir. The zooplankton population was favourably associated with reservoir management and water quality monitoring. During the study period, a total of 56 species of zooplankton were observed in the three reservoirs. The current investigation concluded that rotifera dominated the population, distribution and diversity in each of the three reservoirs. Summer was the season with the highest population, while the monsoon was the season with the lowest occurrence. Therefore, in addition to teaching in schools, colleges, universities, and the general public, public awareness campaigns will be planned about markers of hydrobiological inquiry, zooplankton diversity, and their significance.
