Introduction

The motivation for studying the physics of alloy formation is outlined, and the need for computationally efficient modelling approaches discussed. The methodology presented in this work is set in the context of alternative approaches. There is a brief discussion of the layout of the remainder of the book, and also some discussion of alloy naming conventions and nomenclature.
