Introduction

The management of tumors of the central nervous system in children represents a special challenge in pediatric oncology. The aim of this book is to provide an update on the most significant advances in pediatric neuro-oncology during the recent years, in particular in the context of the formidable development of modern technologies, such as molecular biology and genomic studies that have transformed the landscape of the discipline. From emerging subspecialty 20 or 30 years ago, pediatric neuro-oncology has now become a mature and accepted discipline today. It is a highly specialized area, requiring a multidisciplinary approach and increasingly, a biology-driven strategy.
