Femoral Shaft Fractures

Femoral shaft fractures are common in trauma patients and generally respond favorably to treatment. The significance of hemorrhage and associated injuries make this injury a priority during triage. Early evaluation and treatment is explained. The risk of fat embolism syndrome is reviewed. Early stabilization of the bony injury is emphasized.
