Management of Extensor Mechanism During Revision Total Knee Arthroplasty

The extensor mechanism poses many challenges in the revision knee arthroplasty setting. Not only may it limit exposure of the knee, the tenuous nature of the extensor mechanism in revision arthroplasty may lead to a rupture, thus adding a layer of complexity to the procedure. This chapter will address the techniques for proper exposure, risk factors for extensor mechanism compromise, along both historical and modern management of extensor mechanism disruption.
