Identification of Motor Patterns in Functional Activities Related to ADLs

The movements involved in activities of daily living are necessary to be able to interact with the environment in order to satisfy basic needs, such as feeding, personal hygiene, etc. In healthy people, the correct interaction between different parts of the body results in coordination patterns that can be optimally adapted to the functional purpose of the movement. In certain pathologies, these patterns are affected. For example, in patients who have suffered a stroke, atypical movements appear that encourage compensatory movements of other structures and lead to a deficient organization of the motor system. The most used functional assessment methods are currently based on clinical tests that allow estimating the degree and level of motor dysfunction of the extremities, as well as tests applied through interviews that allow assessing the degree of independence of the patient in activities of daily living. In clinical practice, both test models are necessary for the evaluation of patients with motor impairment. The present project aims to characterize typical functional movements oriented to activities of daily living that can be the basis of comparison for pathological movements. In this initial attempt, results are presented with respect to the activity of tooth brushing.
