Measurements of Density and Attenuation Coefficients for Compressible Samples Simulating Breast Tissue

In quasi 3D mammography, it is necessary to have compressible phantoms that simulate breasts for specific quality controls and for research purposes. The materials used must have adequate density - X ray attenuation - radiological image - hardness. The objectives of this work were: to characterize the X ray beam in Mo-Mo quality, to obtain the densities and attenuation coefficients of samples that simulate adipose, glandular, and malignant tissue. Half value layer measurements were performed at 22, 25, 28, 30, 32 y 35 kV on samples composed of silicones, gels, silicone oils, glass microspheres, quartz powder, PLA and TPU. Densities were measured from knowing the mass and volume. The sample of gel + Thinner + microspheres and quarts, for 15 keV, gave values of attenuation and density closer to adipose tissue. While the sample of gel + silicone + Thinner + microspheres would simulate malignant tissue, although the density value is still low.
