Xian Metaverse - Extended Reality Technology Enabling Digital Economy in Commercial Neighborhoods

Augmented reality is being applied in various fields. By combining digital content with the real world, information and data are instantly available, improving users’ efficiency. However, since currently most augmented reality researches focus mostly on small indoor spaces (e.g., museums, classrooms), discussing the application of augmented reality as a technology in urban management such as digital economy, cultural heritage seems to be a research gap. In this paper, we will explore the design challenges of augmented reality application for cities and its contribution to the urban environment, digital economy and cultural heritage of cities by presenting Xian Yuan Universe, an augmented reality design project for a commercial street.
