Microalgae have been thoroughly studied in recent years for their use in different technological fields. In this research we focus on the study of a Chlorella sp. strain, isolated from the industrial effluent discharge zone of Arequipa. We investigated its growth performance in BG11 culture medium with and without nitrogen (NaNO3, 1.5 g/l) and CO2 (1–2% in enhanced air) limitations for its possible use in industrial wastewater treatment. The highest growth rates were 0.420 d−1 and 0.401 d−1 in the tests with BG11 medium in continuous light with and without CO2 in aeration respectively.
