Camana river contamination is a problem that threatens quality and availability of the hydrologic resource. The identification of contamination sources needs on rivers using hydro chemical analysis as controlling factors becomes a useful tool to monitor and evaluate its status. The Camana river investigation has been developed on 8 sampling points during the low water season in October, obtaining surface water samples for the determination of physicochemical parameters and main ions. The samples collected were analyzed for pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), total suspended solids (TDS), conductivity, salinity, and turbidity. The main ions as cations like Ca2+, Mg2+ and Na+ and anions like Cl−, F−, \({\text{NO}}_{3}^{ - }\) , \({\text{SO}}_{4}^{2 - }\) and CO3 + HCO3 were determined. The results of the chemical analyses allowed us to determine the chemical dominance of the water by means of the Piper diagram, showing the sodium chloride dominance of the water matrix. By means of the Gibbs diagram we determined the main influence of control factors, obtaining as a result the dominance of evaporation and seawater as dominant. From the results we can deduce that anthropogenic activity exerts a significant effect on water chemistry, therefore, the quality of the water resource is affected by this phenomenon. This study provides important information on the chemistry and quality of water in the Camana River and suggests the planning of management strategies for the protection of the river.
