Digital Barriers in the Elderly: The Effect of Interaction Method in a Medical Registration System on Operational Stress in the Elderly

The aging of the population is increasing, and healthcare has become a hotspot for elderly services. The medical registration system uses IoT technology to optimize the medical process and interconnect information, making the medical service fast and efficient. However, the seemingly convenient, multi-approach smart registration method still has digital barrier issues for elderly users. This study collects multi-channel physiological signals from young and elderly subjects by summarizing the barriers of elderly users and designing an interactive experimental method to meet the healthcare needs of the elderly population. It was found that both elderly users and young users had slightly lower HR and SC mean indexes when auditory compensation was applied and that compensation of hearing could reduce the operating pressure of the elderly and improve the user experience; the HRV and EDA indexes of the elderly users increased more in the interactive operation, and the operating pressure of the elderly users was significantly higher than that of the young users. This study has implications for the design of intelligent products oriented to the cognitive characteristics of the elderly.
