Elderly of Gestures Control Design on Usability Evaluation

The goal of this research is to improve the performance of man-machine interaction of elders with declining sensational, physiological and cognitive condition from observing their input, output mechanism and gesture operation on smart mobile device inter-face. Furthermore, we look forward to develop a gesture operation model to express the relation between degeneration and usability Issues. The research framework and design of simulation experiment consist of factors mentioned above. In experiment phase one, in order to prove the design principles in literatures, we invited three professional industrial designers to evaluate them with focus group methodology and thirty elders to participate in gesture operation experiment designed by us. The result turned out to be conclusive and coincided with previous literatures. Therefore, product designers could follow our research to improve interfaces for elders. In experiment phase two, we transformed the data obtained in preliminary study into graphical inter-face and merged different gesture operations systematically. In order to complete our novel gesture operation, we tested it scientifically with fuzzy theory to deduce fuzzy comprehensive evaluation data according to System Usability Scale and Jakob Nielsen’s usability heuristics. It revealed the importance of design and development, we hope the novel gesture operation will meet the need of users.
