Research on the Application Situation and Trend of Immersive Design

Through a systematic analytical study of 1,219 immersive design documents in the internationally renowned database WOS (Web of Science), we hope to gain a more objective and credible knowledge and understanding of this field. By using bibliometric analysis combined with content analysis, the overall overview, theoretical basis, research hot spots, and dynamic trends of immersive design research are analyzed, interpreted, and discussed. The research results show that immersive design research is developing rapidly, mainly in the fields of computer science, engineering, educational research, imaging science and photography technology, telecommunications, psychology, etc. With the United States as the core of academic research; the theoretical basis of immersive design mainly originates from immersion theory, and hot topics mainly focus on the cognitive elaboration of the ontology of immersive design, the innovative strategies of immersion theory in design, educational applications, product development, and multi-field practice and other topics; immersive design research has significant interdisciplinary and practical characteristics, and cross-level and interdisciplinary cooperation needs to be further strengthened in future research, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, sensing technology, etc. This cross-level and cross-disciplinary cooperation will break the limitations of traditional design and bring more innovative possibilities to immersive design.
