Analysis of Participants’ Synchronization Behaviors and Big Five Personalities in Dyadic Conversation

Gestures during conversation and personality are not independent. However, there are few studies on the relationship between smile synchronization and personality. In this study, we analyze the relationship between synchronization and personality traits during dyadic conversation using dialogue data. The targets of the analysis are the relationship between the Big Five personalities and smile synchronization and wrist movements. From the results, we obtain the following findings. A strong negative correlation coefficient was obtained between the probability of synchronized smiles and intelligence scores. There are weak negative correlation coefficients between the delay of synchronized smiles and Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability, and Intelligence scores. These insights suggest that personality traits affect the synchronization strategy of conversation.
