Medrack: Bridging Trust and Technology for Safer Drug Supply Chain Using Ethereum and IoT

World of healthcare has been facing a revolution since pandemic and there is a huge rise in IoT devices developed for the betterment of healthcare sector. The drug supply chain plays a major role in enhancing healthcare, as volume of drugs and medical supply are increasing tremendously. Yet, complex drug supply chain faces various issues on counterfeiting and concerns are raised in terms of quality control, medicine hoarding and theft. The real time data from IoT sensors helps in tracking and monitoring drugs in containers during storage and during transportation throughout the supply chain from manufacturer till reaching the end customer. The immutability of the blockchain ledger ensures in providing the much-needed transparency and trust among the stakeholders. In this paper, a novel IoT application Medrack is built by utilizing blockchain as the back bone for the networked intelligent production system. The proposed work provides better solutions in solving the drug counterfeits, hoard problems and eradicates the theft also paving the way for deliver traceable and safe drugs to patients.
