Cyber Security Investigation of GPS-Spoofing Attack in Military UAV Networks

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) in military are prone to attacks by hackers and terrorists and this concern deals with a Nation’s security. GPS-Spoofing is a technique used by attackers to bring down a UAV to ground or to capture drone and perform Reverse Engineering which posses a key threat to Defense Systems and software suites being stolen. An UAV is captured when a spoofer gains the ability to eventually specify the UAV’s position and velocity estimates. Both overt and covert spoofing strategies are estimated. GPS-Spoofing incidents have led to Military drones being captured in overseas territories while flying in restricted airspace. GPS-Spoofing is a threat to UAV’s as they misguide the drones to think enemy bases as home base and they fall as a prey to the wrong hands. The paper aims to Explore through the theoretical frameworks to counter GPS-Spoofing with enhanced security and reliable navigation techniques. Averting a GPS-Spoofing attack through the integration of inertial as well as sensor reference data is theorized in this paper further.
