Fundamentals of Tuberous Breast Deformity

Tuberous breast deformity is a congenital condition of unknown etiology that consists of hypoplasia of part or all of the mammary gland, associated with the development of a constrictive ring outside the areolar limit and up to the base of the breast, with subsequent herniation of the mammary parenchyma and dilatation of the nipple-areola complex. We present a case of a nulliparous patient of childbearing age with a diagnosis of tuberous breast deformity and the therapeutic approach offered according to her needs. The most relevant characteristics of tuberous breast deformity are described, from its clinical presentation, the hypotheses about its pathogenesis and classification systems, through the preoperative approach, surgical technique, and postoperative care, to the methodology for evaluating the results. Finally, key points and novel tips are added, focusing on a practical, consistent, and safe approach to this condition.
