Fundamentals of Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL)

Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is T-cell CD30+ lymphoma with a significant public health concern for women with breast implants. The epidemiologic picture of BIA-ALCL remains unclear, with increasing incidence rates and still largely underreported. There are 35 million patients with implants in the world and more than 1,685,471 breast augmentations are performed annually worldwide, for this reason, it is crucial that every plastic and reconstructive surgeon knows in detail the genetic bases, associated risk factors, clinical features, diagnostic approach and timely treatment of BIA-ALCL. This chapter will attempt to provide a concise overview of BIA-ALCL.
