Fundamentals Alopecia and Hair Transplantation

Alopecia consists of loss of hair that can affect the scalp or the entire body and can be temporary or permanent. There are two different types of alopecia: the non-scarring alopecia and the scarring one. It is important to discern them in order to undertake adequate therapy. The first-line treatment of AGA is the medical one that includes topical minoxidil, antiandrogen agents, 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (finasteride). The hair transplantation is a valid option in patients who ask for better aesthetic results than ones achieved with topical and systemic agents.
