Fundamentals of Anterolateral Thigh Flap

The anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap since its advent has established as one of the perforator-based workhorse flaps due to its high versatility, offering a wide variety of alternatives for reconstruction, not only for proximal defects of the lower extremity but it is also possible to use it as a free flap as a reconstructive alternative in head and neck, posterior portion of the trunk, distal lower extremity, esophagus, and penis reconstruction. Its variations in design and tissue composition in terms of a fasciocutaneous or chimeric flap serve to reconstruct a number of defects. This chapter will attempt to provide a concise overview on extensor tendon injuries of the hand.
