Fundamentals of Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator Flap

The high reproducibility rate, relative safety, and progressive learning curve are some of the main advantages offered by the deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap, which makes it one of the free flap “workhorses” for all microsurgeons. Currently, the DIEP flap is considered the gold standard for autologous breast reconstruction. Its historical bases, anatomical foundations, surgical technique, and indications must be mastered by all residents and graduated plastic surgeons. This chapter will attempt to provide a concise overview of DIEP flap.
