Fundamentals of Carpal Dislocations and Instability

Carpal instabilities are common problems but at the same time are little known. It is frequent that only the more obvious cases are diagnosed, and those with less clinical–radiological translation go unnoticed. In general, professionals who treat locomotor system problems are unaware of the causes, semiology, management, and consequences of carpal instabilities. This entails the appearance of complications whose sequelae would be avoided if earlier diagnoses were made, and if certain dysfunctions did not evolve into situations of notable functional disability. This chapter presents the basic concepts that allow a better understanding of the problem and helps to avoid unacceptable levels of morbidity.
