Lower extremity ulcers are a very common problem that represents a major healthcare burden associated with high socioeconomic impact and a significant reduction in health-related quality of life. The most common causes of leg ulcers are vascular insufficiency and diabetes. The vascular etiology as the major cause of leg ulcers imposes an important component of wound chronicity with high rates of recurrence. A correct diagnosis of the type of ulcer is essential to offer proper management and wound care.
