Evaluation Design for Cross-Reality Laboratories

The evaluation of learning objectives, teaching-learning activities and learning outcome monitoring is the fundamental basis for their further iterative improvement. This paper outlines the development of a mixed-method evaluation instrument designed for cross-reality laboratories. The instrument measures the dimensions of Constructive Alignment (a framework for creating high quality teaching and learning at university level), effectiveness, efficiency, and appeal. In addition, the instrument measures how the laboratory addresses learning outcomes relevant to Work 4.0. For this, 88 initial quantitative items were reduced to 40 through a process involving pre-face validity testing, pre-pilot testing, and pre-pre-testing. The pre-face validity test considered both expert and student feedback. A statistical analysis of the results of a pre-pre-test was carried out to remove further questions from the questionnaire. For this purpose, the Cronbach’s alpha as well as the pairwise correlation of the pre-pre-test results were calculated. In the questionnaire’s continuing development, the number of questions will be further reduced.
