Left Internal Jugular Vein in Pediatrics

  • Fernando Montes-Tapia

摘要

Given the complexity of the trajectory of the left internal jugular vein (LIJV) compared to the right, the application of the dynamic needle tip positioning technique (DNTP) guided by ultrasound, visualized in the short-axis view (SAX view), is a fundamental strategy to prevent complications. By using an intravenous catheter and demonstrating the DNTP procedure, we ensure the accuracy of the puncture in real time, minimizing the risk of injuring adjacent structures. Due to the patient’s low weight and the small diameter of the vein, I recommend careful insertion of the catheter tube into the jugular vein, securing its position during the specific maneuvers of Seldinger’s technique.
