Left Femoral Vein in Pediatrics

The femoral vein is a central venous access frequently utilized due to its anatomically consistent location with minimal variability. Ultrasound-guided puncture techniques can be performed using either a long-axis (LAX) or short-axis (SAX) view. In this chapter, I demonstrate the puncture technique in SAX view, employing dynamic needle tip positioning (DNTP) to guide the puncture in real time until venous cannulation is achieved. Identifying the femoral neurovascular bundle in SAX view (medially to laterally: vein, artery, nerve) aids in preventing complications. Mastery of the DNTP technique mitigates complications associated with out-of-plane puncture, which is commonly reported when utilizing the SAX view.
