Hybrid Representations of Exile Landscapes in Catalan and Spanish Poets and Artists

  • Elisenda Marcer

摘要

This chapter explores how an interdisciplinary and comparative method can help to overcome the limitations of critical approaches used in Exile Studies from the 1950s to the present. It focuses on the asymmetric structures that emerged when Spanish exile parameters encountered Catalan ones, looks at different literary and visual representations of inner and territorial exile, and considers the risks and limitations of Paul llie’s concept of ‘inner exile’ when applied to stateless nations like Catalonia. It thus examines different layers of exile and contrasts the Catalan and Spanish contexts through an analysis of representations of exile across the intersection of poetry and painting in the work of Spanish and Catalan poets such as Montserrat Abelló, Rosa Leveroni, Joan Oliver (Pere Quart), Pedro Garfias, Anna Murià, Hilarión Brugarolas, among others.
