Exploring Supportive Strategies and Teaching Approaches for Statistics Course: Leveraging ChatGPT

Students often approach statistics or other quantitative courses with dread and a disbelief in their ability to succeed, and this poses a great challenge to the educators to deliver the course and keep the learners motivated and engaged. This challenge is even higher for the new educators teaching statistics for the first time. Statistics is a complex subject that requires not only mathematical skills but also critical thinking and analytical reasoning. Hence, this paper uses ChatGPT as a supporting pedagogical tool to guide as how the instructors can design innovative teaching strategies such as flipped classroom, gamification to make this challenging course interesting. Additionally, this paper proposes some online tools and learning activities which the instructors can use in their classroom, and all these suggestions are supported by the responses generated by ChatGPT. Along with the advantages offered, ChatGPT also brings some disadvantages, and hence, the educators need to also conduct their independent research rather than totally relying on ChatGPT as a support system.
