The Role of Hydrogen for a Sustainable Energy Transition in the European Union: Between a Fossil-Based and a Renewable Path
摘要
The European Union is at a crucial moment to decide the future of its energy system and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions drastically. This chapter assesses policies and regulations affecting hydrogen development in the European Union to explore what role fossil gas plays in hydrogen development and how fossil gas facilities, infrastructure and governance are linked to the hydrogen regulation framework. In addition, it identifies the challenges to achieving a sustainable energy transition posed by the European approach to hydrogen regulation.
