Legal Aspects of Odor Regulation

  • Mojca Ramšak

摘要

Odor legislation covers a wide range of areas, such as the protection of the environment, workplace conditions, and indoor air quality, as well as the regulation of flavors in food, beverages, tobacco products, and fragrances. This legal framework regulates not only the permitted levels of odors but also various aspects related to their origin, production, distribution, use, and marketing. It also contains precise definitions of terms associated with odors. To thoroughly examine odor regulation, it is essential to compare it with national legislation, starting with the binding directives of the European Union, which are then implemented at the national level. It is also important to look at the practical enforcement of penalties for non-compliance. European legislation aims to prevent harmful odors from the environment and the deceptive use of fragrances. However, issues such as environmental pollution and the exploitation of scent marketing practices show that there is a lack of effective control in these areas.
