Gender Pay Gap in the Nigerian Renewable Energy Sector

The Women in Renewable Energy (WIRE-A) is undertaking a Gender Pay Gap in Renewable Energy survey. The objective of the survey is to gather quantitative and qualitative insights on the current salary status and working conditions of women in the renewable energy sector, exploring existing challenges and potential solutions to improve gender diversity. The method of data collection is via a survey using Google Forms. The survey was shared in the public Women in Renewable Energy and other sister groups like Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria and Council for Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria social media handles. It was also emailed to a comprehensive list of Renewable Energy Companies operating in Nigeria and personally administered by the author. Simple statistics and descriptive analysis are employed to interpret the data collected. The findings from the survey will contribute to addressing the data and knowledge gap on gender disparity in renewable energy and inform policy-making to ensure that the energy transition is inclusive and benefits from a wider pool of talent. The information collected through the survey is processed and aggregated to serve as an important input for the forthcoming Women in Renewable Energy report to be published to Nigerian authorities and other related institutions, globally. The discussion will place the Nigerian Renewable sector in a global perspective as it relates to the performance of gender equity.
