Simondon’s Concepts and Art

Chapter 6 (“Simondon’s Concepts and Art”) analyzes in great detail works of poets and painters in order to concretely show the resonance previously established at the theoretical level between Simondon’s concepts and the embodied process of artistic creation. This chapter first considers the work of poets and painters who have commented upon their own creation process and whose expression happens to resonate with that of Simondon. Discussion subsequently turns to poets and painters who have performed and dramatized the processes of individuation and transduction in their very work : the poets E.E. Cummings and Francis Ponge and the painter Cy Twombly. The chapter concludes with a brief study of the philosopher Henri Maldiney, who studies the work of the poet Francis Ponge from a perspective that sheds light on the functioning of languages and underlines the semantic potential of linguistic features still present in some languages whereas they have disappeared from others.
