The Simondonian Concepts of Pre-individual, Individuation, Becoming and Transduction

Chapter 5 (“The Simondonian Concepts of Pre-individual, Individuation, Becoming and Transduction”) exposes and discusses the concepts developed by the philosopher Gilbert Simondon in his famous opus L’individuation à la lumière des notions de forme et d’information [Individuation in Light of Notions of Form and Information]. In so far as the different phases Simondon distinguishes in the process of individuation show a remarkable correspondence with the different stages discernible in the work of poets or painters in the course of their creation, Simondon’s concepts, the “pre-individual”, “individuation”, “becoming” and “transduction” figure centrally in this discussion. In passing, a comparative study of Simondon’s concept of “disparateness” and Deleuze’s concept of “difference” aims to clarify the intellectual companionship of the two philosophers.
