Increasing Engagement in the Classroom

The nature and the quality of students’ engagementStudents’ engagement in the classroom plays a key role in shaping their attitudes, abilities, knowledge, and skills to learn new knowledge, as defined by the prescribed curriculum, and master designated key learning areas. I have argued in my recent books on motivation that for individuals to be engaged in learning, first and foremost, they must feel positive and good about themselvesZajda, J. (Zajda, 2023a, 2023b). As soon as students demonstrate positive self-conceptsSelf-concepts, they can tap into their creative energy storage, and become confident learners. This contributes to the overall students’ development of a positive and strong sense of self-efficacy, and the feeling that the given learning task can be learned and mastered.
