摘要

The potential of science and technology to advance human progress is immense. The recent pandemic highlighted some of the key elements of a multifaceted approach that are necessary to harness science as a transformative and positive influence. Examples of these core elements include education and public engagement, open access to scientific knowledge, ethical standards and responsibility, interdisciplinary collaboration, funding and investment, global cooperation, and innovation and entrepreneurship. Bioconvergence, a multidisciplinary approach that synergizes biology, engineering, and data and digitalization, promises advancements in areas like healthcare and life sciences, marking a new era of scientific collaboration for a healthier, more sustainable future. Empirical evidence from evolutionary biology illustrates that the mechanism of iterative experimentation, coupled with subsequent failures, fosters the development of remarkably sophisticated technologies. This phenomenon highlights the significant role that inspiration from natural processes plays in the advancement of technological innovation.
